Ok, minus the hot lights and TV cameras, a group of neighbours is leading the charge on a spring make-over for the W.A.L.E.S portable (behind Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region (EaFWR)offices & Sacred Heart Church).
WALES is a program of EaFWR and the building has been the home of many neighbourhood potlucks, community meetings, community garden orientations and likely more! But, it’s in need of a little interior TLC.

Save the Dates!
Mark Friday May 24 – Sunday May 26 on your calendar because that’s when the magic and action will take shape. Organizers will be looking for volunteers to:
- paint main rooms & washrooms
- make minor repairs (patching, etc)
- cleaning windows
Elder care and child care are available upon request if this can free you up to participate. Or, if you like to bake or cook, maybe you would consider sharing a crock pot of food to the busy workers.
What is needed?
In the coming days, we will share a list of jobs that need to be done and you can be in touch with organizers to sign up for a block of time…. really, 2 hours or 2 days, if you like!
Also, Extend-A-Family may have a list of supplies for which they are seeking donation or contribution. They are sourcing resources and looking for a supplier who may reduce costs of supplies, which will be in the region of $1000.
Stay tuned. In the meantime, block the weekend dates on your calendar, then go dig out your overalls and work shirts.
Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to be part of the advance preparation crew. We can make this happen for an organization that has contributed and collaborated a great deal with our neighbourhood – they do amazing work and we have an opportunity to show how much they are appreciated with this gift of our time, energy and elbow grease.
