Join the Community Quilt Project

Hello! I’m Brenda, the coordinator of the From Behind the Mask quilt project (and fellow midtown resident)!

We are making a community quilt based on the form of a mask! Our experiences of COVID-19 have been and continue to be unequal. Some people lost jobs, some work overtime in harm’s way, some have died, and others have recovered. This is an opportunity to come together – while apart – and make something that will remain as a memorial, acknowledge inequality, and act as a starting point for healing.

Each block in the quilt will represent a unique voice, perspective and experience of life during this time. When the quilt blocks are tied together, we are making space together for each other. The hanging of the quilt makes space for stories of pain, resilience and care here in our community. This project is open to all ages and there are no special skills required!

How to Contribute:

Free quilt blocks kits are available through the mail! Simply fill out the google from on the website and I’ll mail a kit with all the material needed to get you started. Kits include: base fabric for the block, needle and thread, assorted scrap fabrics, yarn and an instruction card. The instructions are also available on the website for anyone wanting to make it without a kit.

We have a number of artist-led workshops during the last week of March! Don’t miss out on these free opportunities to learn a new skill and apply it to your quilt block.

Support the Project:

Already contributed your story? There are other ways you can support the project. Follow us on Instagram and share this project with your local friends!

If you are a quilter/sewer with some spare time, I’d love to hear from you. I could use some support in sewing together all these quilt blocks. Please email if interested.

I hope you add your story to the quilt! Block-making ends April 30.
