Let’s organize a ‘walk & learn’

On a neighbourhood level there is much we can do transition to more environmentally sustainable and resilient way of living. As neighbours we can inspire and support each other in this work by sharing ideas, practices, and hope. Even if some aren’t planning for an immediate project, knowing about the available options is a start for the future.

Isaiah Ritzmann from The Working Centre reached out to me to see if there might be some people interested in hosting a sustainability-focused neighbourhood walk (similar to Jane’s Walks’) The neighbourhood walk could explore where solar panels, heat pumps, backyard gardens, chickens, urban bee-keeping and whole variety of environmental actions exist in our own backyards.

(we had similar walks during the RainSmart program to see the different project that had been implemented – ReepGreen organized these)

The Working Centre is reaching out to different neighbourhood groups in the downtown to help plan and organize some of these walks. If you are interested in helping plan this kind of walk in our Mount Hope/Midtown Neighbourhood please reach out to Juanita juanitametzger@gmail.com or  Isaiah: isaiahr@theworkingcentre.org.

The hope is to plan such a walk for the early Fall. Isaiah is planning to host one in the Cherry Park neighbourhood in mid-June.
